About Beyond Haunted

Beyond Haunted is a field guide to haunted America – a growing catalog of hundreds of real locations across all fifty states, each with its documented history, the stories people tell about it, and the exact spot on the map where it happened.

We started Beyond Haunted because most “most haunted places” lists are the same recycled paragraphs, copied from site to site, with no sources, no addresses, and no way to actually visit. We wanted something a bit different: a reference you can trust and actually use whether you’re planning a road trip, researching local history, or just reading with the lights on.

What makes us different

  • Real places, real coordinates. (Almost) Every location is geocoded and plotted on a map, with directions. If you want to stand where the story happened, we’ll get you there.
  • History first, legend clearly labeled. We separate what’s documented – dates, names, records – from what’s folklore. Both are worth telling; we just don’t pretend one is the other.
  • Cited sources. Where the record exists – historical societies, newspaper archives, property records – we link to it when possible.
  • Maintained, not abandoned. Locations close, change hands, and gather new stories over time. We will try to keep the guide current.

Who’s behind it

I’m Josh, and I’ve spent decades chasing ghost stories across the country, sleeping in “haunted” hotels, walking cemeteries after dark, and digging through local archives to separate documented history from campfire legend. I built Beyond Haunted to gather it all in one place, mapped and sourced, so the next person doesn’t have to start from scratch.
